My name is Stphane Deschnes and I'm your host for this podcast and the owner of Fair Oaks Family Naturist Park. 00:01:08 Stphane And no, getting sunburnt is not a game. 00:01:11 Stphane It's not a good idea. 00:01:12 Stphane It's bad for you. 00:01:14 Stphane Not something that you try to do, and in the sunburn game is also something you try to avoid. 00:01:21 Stphane The person who loses is sunburned. 00:01:24 Stphane UM, it's a card game. It's a card game that I ran across. I'm I'm not sure. I think somebody must have sent it to me. Anyway, I I ran across it. It's A and I was fascinated by the. 00:01:39 Stphane The quality of the illustration and the thought that went into it. 00:01:43 Stphane This may be the most inclusive set of people of human beings. 00:01:50 Stphane All clothes free, of course that I've ever seen in a game. 00:01:56 Stphane It probably exists in a game so. 00:01:58 Stphane Of course I had to get some and it was during that time where things were a little challenging the last few years. 00:02:07 Stphane So it took a while, but I did manage to get an interview with the folks who created it because I wanted to learn more about how this game happened and why it happened. 00:02:18 Stphane But before we do that, before we listen to the interview, let's hear from Samantha about the wonderful people that are supporting us financially. 00:02:27 Samantha Absolutely Stphane. Thank you. Currently we have 86 dedicated listeners on Patreon supporting me month after month and this month I'd like to give a huge shout. 00:02:38 Samantha Out to Steve A. 00:02:43 Samantha And Shelby, thank you especially to those five people and to all of our dedicated listeners. 00:02:50 Samantha Thank you as well, you being a supporter on Patreon means that I do dedicate more time focusing on editing and producing every single one of these. 00:03:01 Samantha Episodes because I know I have you guys. 00:03:05 Samantha I love the listeners, but the the patreons that we have are so incredible for taking the time to donate even just. 00:03:11 Samantha A few dollars. 00:03:12 Samantha A month. 00:03:12 Samantha So thank you. 00:03:14 Samantha Huge shout out to you, all of you. 00:03:15 Samantha Patreons, you are fantastic. 00:03:18 Stphane And thank you. 00:03:18 Stphane Even if you're just listening. 00:03:20 Stphane Thank you for supporting us with your comment. 00:03:22 Stphane Thank you for just being there. 00:03:24 Stphane So we appreciate the number of listeners. 00:03:25 Stphane We continue to have. 00:03:27 Stphane So thank you for all that. 00:03:28 Stphane So and it's for you that create we create this content although I enjoyed putting it together and I enjoyed talking to all the very interesting people. 00:03:36 Stphane And so with that in mind, let's listen to the interview with the creators of sunburn, the people from Table candle games. 00:03:50 TJ Baker My name is TJ Baker. 00:03:53 TJ Baker I am one of the Co founders for the table candle. 00:03:58 Jane I'm Jane SI am the one of the other Co founders. There's a third, but he can't make it. 00:04:06 Stphane So, besides being Co founders, do you do anything for table candle? 00:04:10 Stphane What you guys, what's your jobs? 00:04:12 Stphane What's your role? 00:04:12 Stphane Why did you get together in Form tab? 00:04:15 TJ Baker Well, the reason we got the reason we formed table Candle was actually because of the third member who's not with us today, but he is with us in spirit. 00:04:23 TJ Baker Tim, he created a tabletop role-playing system and we wanted to try to bring it to market because we felt like it was a good for like a better word. It's a very good product that people would really like. 00:04:36 TJ Baker And the best part about that is that system is. 00:04:38 TJ Baker OK, so but the reason we got together and we did this was originally to start getting this idea of a gaming tabletop gaming company started. 00:04:53 TJ Baker After we had started and me personally, I actually do a lot of the editing, the background stuff. 00:05:00 TJ Baker I also do my official real title is lead art director Jane. 00:05:07 Jane So I I came into the Group A little bit later though he started it while TJ and I were dating at the time, but I became kind of the Member to be more of the the social people person. 00:05:26 Jane I'm able to. 00:05:30 Jane Explain what we're creating in layman's terms, if you will, and I'm a little more social than than the other team members. 00:05:40 Stphane OK. 00:05:41 Stphane And a third person with their role in table candle. 00:05:43 Jane So he was the creator of the the rule system of the original game. He at one point he despised this rule system for a tabletop role-playing game, and he decided, you know what? I'm going to make my own. And that was what, 3020 years ago, something like that. 00:06:05 TJ Baker 20 years ago and it was a while ago I forget exactly when it was, but he he essentially started making this system in his basement and we, I I grew up knowing his daughter and later on became good friends with him personally and ever since then we've really been. 00:06:24 TJ Baker Game together every Saturday to play Hero Builder, which is the system and that system is a very free form system. 00:06:32 TJ Baker It's really catered to homebrewers and. 00:06:37 TJ Baker People who want to make worlds that's haven't really been made before it's event. 00:06:42 TJ Baker It's essentially a very open system. 00:06:44 Jane It's a sandbox. 00:06:45 TJ Baker I know this is going to be, yeah, it's a sandbox. 00:06:48 TJ Baker It's more of an engine. 00:06:49 TJ Baker I would say the the big thing is for this system we've come out with a couple of supplements. 00:06:55 TJ Baker We've been trying to work on in the background. 00:06:57 TJ Baker To basically be like, hey, these are worlds, but it's really hard to expand that kind of stuff when people are really looking for artwork and it's hard to. 00:07:10 TJ Baker It's hard to find really good artists. 00:07:13 TJ Baker That are within our price range because we want to make sure the artwork is very. 00:07:19 Stphane So doing so just generally game creation, I mean that's not something I've ever done or worked in. 00:07:25 Stphane So it sounds like you need. 00:07:28 Stphane You need somebody rules. 00:07:30 Stphane I can see it would be totally important because if you're doing badly, it's too easy, too hard or no fun to play. 00:07:37 Stphane But you need a story or you need an idea behind it, right? 00:07:41 Stphane And the imagery I think is very important, which is where you come in and then you have to be able to explain it and. 00:07:48 Stphane And make sure people enjoy and can communicate, right? 00:07:50 Stphane Is that the three things you kind of telling me you need or? 00:07:53 Stphane Is there more to that? 00:07:54 TJ Baker No, that's that's basically it. 00:07:55 TJ Baker It's essentially the idea of when it comes down to making games. 00:08:01 TJ Baker Games are essentially constructs that we make, we create rules and we create bounds to work within. 00:08:07 TJ Baker And when you do this. 00:08:09 TJ Baker You create a really fun game there is, let's say. 00:08:12 TJ Baker OK. 00:08:13 TJ Baker Games are hard to create because you have to come up with the rules and the problem with most rules is you have to come up with rules that people are willing to play and seem fair. 00:08:25 TJ Baker For everybody involved, when it came down to creating Hero Builder, which is our flagship product. 00:08:34 TJ Baker We need to come up with ideas of like, OK, if a player is going to be doing XY and Z, we have to make sure that player C is not going to. 00:08:44 TJ Baker Try to out up one up them and when it comes down to other table top top games which is sunburnt which is our other product currently sunburnt has built off of the idea of old. 00:08:56 TJ Baker Made and with old maid. 00:09:00 TJ Baker It's an old of course. 00:09:01 TJ Baker It's a very old game, but when we created sunburnt when it came down to the rules, it's essentially you have to come up with fun ideas for like the rules like there for sunburnt. 00:09:12 TJ Baker There's not a whole lot of rules for sunburnt here builder. 00:09:15 TJ Baker There's a lot of rules. 00:09:16 TJ Baker And you got to play test it and run it through people and basically be like, hey, somebody created this using the current rules and it goes haywire. 00:09:26 TJ Baker But when it comes down to like, sunburnt, even though it's based on a tried and true like old, older kind of type of game. 00:09:34 TJ Baker You have to still come up with, like, fun rules that are within the setting. 00:09:37 TJ Baker That's why it's the last person who got naked is just one of the rules because. 00:09:44 TJ Baker It kind of helps get you into character for when you sit down and play sunburnt. 00:09:49 Stphane So that's interesting. 00:09:50 Stphane Yes, you're right. 00:09:51 Stphane Sunburnt is a very easy game to learn. 00:09:55 Stphane The rules are very simple, you can pick it up in. 00:09:57 Stphane Minutes and you? 00:10:00 Stphane It's easy enough that kids can play it. 00:10:03 Stphane What's the difference between a game that's got very complex rules versus one like this that's simple? 00:10:10 TJ Baker When it when it comes down to a more complex game and a more simple game. 00:10:15 TJ Baker So it's essentially a very simple game and simple and complex are just words. 00:10:20 TJ Baker Essentially, a more pick up and play kind of game is 1 where it's essentially only got a couple of rules to it. 00:10:26 TJ Baker It's it can fit on essentially even a card. 00:10:30 TJ Baker All the rules can fit on the card and it's. 00:10:34 TJ Baker Eligible enough that you can go. 00:10:36 TJ Baker OK, this is essentially when this one thing happens, or one one or two things happen. 00:10:45 TJ Baker This is how you progress the game. For example, sunburnt's more simple rule structure is if you have a matching pair in your hand, you set it down if there. 00:10:53 TJ Baker Are no more. 00:10:54 TJ Baker Matching pairs, which is the only real. 00:10:56 TJ Baker Second other rule. 00:10:59 TJ Baker If there are no more matching pairs and you only have a if you have the sunbird card, you lose. 00:11:05 TJ Baker 2 rules really 3 rules if you think about. 00:11:08 TJ Baker It a more. 00:11:09 TJ Baker Complex rule system like Hero Builder. 00:11:11 TJ Baker Essentially it goes more in depth of like firing off on if blank then blank. 00:11:18 TJ Baker Essentially, that's all games are. 00:11:19 TJ Baker If blank, then blank. 00:11:21 TJ Baker So if you have a matching pair, put them down. 00:11:25 TJ Baker If there are no more. 00:11:26 TJ Baker Cards and you have the sunburn card. 00:11:28 TJ Baker You lose. 00:11:30 TJ Baker For like Hero Builder, it's if you have a. If your strength is at 18 then your bonus is I believe it's +4. 00:11:41 TJ Baker Whenever you roll, if you roll a die and it would notice how I'm beginning to go with it, we'll, we'll start going spiraling down into a rules. 00:11:51 TJ Baker Essentially, it rules chasm trying to figure out exactly. 00:11:58 TJ Baker How the game works. 00:11:59 TJ Baker So a very simple pick up and play will have like one or two rules or maybe even 3 rules. 00:12:04 TJ Baker A more complex rules system will have like 5 or more and Hera builder is a very, very complex rule system. 00:12:12 TJ Baker But you can make anything you want out of it. 00:12:14 TJ Baker I know there are several naturist. 00:12:18 TJ Baker Creators out there on the Internet that have their own like naturist worlds. 00:12:22 TJ Baker I know there's a couple that I personally follow and I do talk to. 00:12:29 TJ Baker I know that some a system like that would be very helpful for them because they could create, they could essentially put rules to their world and then people can pick up and role play in their world. 00:12:40 TJ Baker That's essentially what here builder is for is the idea of. 00:12:43 TJ Baker You can just pick up something and play with it. 00:12:46 TJ Baker For example, I can pick up. 00:12:47 TJ Baker Winnie the Pooh. 00:12:48 TJ Baker Which is in the public domain by the. 00:12:50 TJ Baker Right now, and I could actually play a game of with who using Hero Builder, but because it's a more rules complex system, it's going to be harder to sit down and like go through the rules and go like, OK, Pooh Bear, who is he? 00:13:03 TJ Baker He has a strength of probably 10. 00:13:06 TJ Baker He's not very strong. 00:13:07 Jane His intelligence is not too high either. 00:13:10 TJ Baker But his charisma is very. 00:13:14 TJ Baker What kind of powers does Pooh bear have? 00:13:16 TJ Baker What kind of skills does he have? 00:13:18 TJ Baker What does if XY and Z have? 00:13:20 TJ Baker But that's basically to answer your question. 00:13:22 TJ Baker That's it. 00:13:23 TJ Baker It's essentially a complex system. 00:13:25 TJ Baker We'll have five or more rules and a very simple or pick up and play will have two or three so. 00:13:32 Stphane Hero Builder is not specifically a naturist game, but it could be, as you said, depending how much you how. 00:13:38 Stphane You use it but the sunburnt which really attract my attention is I don't know if it was intended to be a naturist game, but it's very naturist friendly given the incredible diversity and variety of body types and shapes that you illustrate and it's incredible. 00:13:56 Stphane So is it an interest game? 00:13:58 Stphane Was that the intention? 00:14:00 TJ Baker It was always. 00:14:01 TJ Baker It was always the intention to make that a naturist game. 00:14:04 TJ Baker Sunburns has always been from the very start in nature's game, and that's the one thing that the table candle will do is essentially, if your builder was our third founders passion project, this is this was my personal passion project. 00:14:19 TJ Baker I am very involved in trying to help out the naturist community and try to bring the idea of hey. 00:14:25 TJ Baker It's it's normal to be nude. 00:14:27 TJ Baker To the center light and no other gaming company would kind of like pick this up really. 00:14:32 TJ Baker So we and our our kind of the table candles mission is if we have a mission, it's essentially if you have a really big passion project, we can do our best to try to make it a reality and bring it to market. 00:14:46 TJ Baker And try to find a way to make it a reality. 00:14:49 TJ Baker The big thing is with naturist, as you said, it's a very diverse card game that actually that honor actually goes to our Diversity Officer Jane who went through and and. 00:15:03 TJ Baker You can't get. Go ahead. 00:15:06 TJ Baker This is this is your limelight. 00:15:07 TJ Baker This the diversity part is your limelight. 00:15:11 Jane So the he listed all of these different categories that people can have. 00:15:18 Jane And from there I I have always been. 00:15:24 Jane Very not only in the I grew up in, in a neighborhood that was always very diverse compared to where we're living in now, which is in the middle of the country, but I. 00:15:38 Jane I'm also a part of the LGBTQIA community, and so there are some cards that hint or outright indicate part of the community, and I I basically made a list, divided them as much as possible to like different ethnicities. 00:15:58 Jane Different body types and mixed and matched and. 00:16:03 Jane By category and made sure most categories are not exactly what you expected, like the let's see, I have my list here. 00:16:15 Jane The marksman are both women. 00:16:18 Jane One is Hispanic and the other, I believe, was. 00:16:23 Jane African American. 00:16:27 TJ Baker I believe it was. 00:16:29 TJ Baker I'd have to have all the cards in front of me, but. 00:16:32 Jane Here you are African American and Middle Eastern India. 00:16:36 TJ Baker And I think the big thing when we went into that was essentially the idea of I think and like anything rules are very important. 00:16:47 TJ Baker And as an artist, it's one of the biggest things, the big rule for that one was. 00:16:54 TJ Baker There's always a balance. 00:16:56 TJ Baker There are exactly the same number of men and women in the deck there are. 00:17:02 TJ Baker We did our best to make. 00:17:03 Jane It's equal as possible. 00:17:05 TJ Baker So that not one always overshadowed another. 00:17:09 TJ Baker That was the and essentially that just like creating a game, having rules and making art rules make a very potent way that you can create and do something fun. 00:17:21 TJ Baker But the big thing is when it comes down to sunburnt itself, is this. 00:17:26 TJ Baker The idea of. 00:17:29 TJ Baker It's this idea that. 00:17:33 TJ Baker It's also a work of art, and that's how we kind of presented that one. 00:17:36 TJ Baker If our if your builder is just, if you look at your builder on our website, it is basically just the rules. 00:17:43 TJ Baker We didn't want to put at a flavor to it. 00:17:45 TJ Baker We really wanted you to have fun with with it and create flavor for it. 00:17:49 TJ Baker We have some artwork on the. 00:17:51 TJ Baker Main page, but that's basically. 00:17:52 TJ Baker It but with some burnt. 00:17:53 TJ Baker We were trying to make a very beautiful art piece because we understood that for a very simple rule game you have to have a bit more to it and one of those aspects was well, if it's going to be a naturist game, you want to make sure that it. 00:18:07 TJ Baker All the all the cards and everybody is presented in such a way that is not as normal. 00:18:16 TJ Baker I say normal but normal is not a good word. 00:18:18 TJ Baker It has never been a good word. 00:18:20 TJ Baker It's like good and bad. 00:18:21 TJ Baker It's they're not good words. 00:18:22 TJ Baker Not good. 00:18:23 TJ Baker They're not good for describing things. 00:18:25 Jane Every card is individual. 00:18:28 TJ Baker Every card is an individual work of art, and it doesn't bring this idea of. 00:18:36 TJ Baker Hey, I'm. 00:18:37 TJ Baker I'm Naked for naked sake. 00:18:39 TJ Baker It's literally just a person doing their hobby or doing something that their other card is. 00:18:45 TJ Baker For example, if you look at the roller, the roller skating one with the with the couple one is just roller skating along looking at his phone. 00:18:55 Jane That's textures. 00:18:55 TJ Baker The texters. 00:18:57 TJ Baker If you look at the textures once just rollerblading along the other ones just sitting naturally, it's this idea of. 00:19:05 TJ Baker If you want to bring normality to naturism, you have to bring this idea of it's you have to approach it like it's just another piece of artwork. 00:19:17 TJ Baker It's not supposed to be. 00:19:20 TJ Baker Oh, they're naked. 00:19:21 TJ Baker It's no they have a bunch of hobbies. 00:19:23 TJ Baker This is a fun game and it. 00:19:24 TJ Baker Just happens that they're naked. 00:19:27 TJ Baker And when we were doing uhm test screenings of some of the artwork when we were first working on it with UM Iolanda, which I hope I I'm saying their name right. 00:19:38 TJ Baker I can never I I've never talked to them personally to confirm. 00:19:42 TJ Baker That's how you say their name. 00:19:43 TJ Baker But when I talked to our. 00:19:44 Jane It's what it is, you. 00:19:46 Jane Only read it. 00:19:47 Jane You never heard it. 00:19:48 TJ Baker And all the body types and all the line art she came up with. 00:19:55 TJ Baker I, of course, okayed it. 00:19:57 TJ Baker There was a couple that needed some work, but that's just. 00:20:00 TJ Baker How art works? 00:20:01 Stphane So you the the person who drew all these. 00:20:04 Stphane These are amazing. 00:20:06 Stphane Is somebody you've never met? 00:20:08 Jane She's from Italy. 00:20:13 Stphane Wow, such a virtual world isn't. 00:20:15 TJ Baker It is amazing and the shading artist is from Virginia. 00:20:19 TJ Baker But last I talked, talked to them. 00:20:21 TJ Baker They were, I believe, still in college, but he was, he thought he really loved the project and I will do him credit here, he. 00:20:32 TJ Baker The amazing artist if and I have, I have him as the credit and if he ever sees this, but the big thing is the the main artist, she she created a beautiful set of line art and then I did all the colors to make sure that they would pop on the cards and they would look good when they get printed. 00:20:54 Jane I told him to do the rainbow background. 00:20:57 TJ Baker That's the big one. 00:20:58 TJ Baker Originally, we weren't going to have a rainbow background for everything, but if you lay out all the cards they they are a rainbow. 00:21:06 Stphane The backgrounds. 00:21:07 Stphane So when when you approach the artists or or the artist the first time and you wanted to do naked people, was there any like resistance today they was were these the first people you talked to or did anybody say no? 00:21:23 TJ Baker So actually there they were. 00:21:25 TJ Baker The very first person I talked to because what I do personally and for any artists that are listening on here, and this is just a common practice from what I've been told at least. 00:21:36 TJ Baker And it's true from my perspective at least I could be wrong. 00:21:41 TJ Baker I searched through Twitter, I searched for deviant art and I look through artwork and profile pictures are the thing that usually get me and if I see your profile picture, I'll look at it and I will go into your actual artwork. 00:21:55 TJ Baker I will spend some time looking at your artwork and if, if you are free and available to Commission. 00:22:01 TJ Baker And you have your prices posted, which is really important if you have your prices posted, because it makes it a lot easier to sort out people who can't afford it and those who who can't afford it. 00:22:12 TJ Baker Know what? 00:22:15 TJ Baker The big thing is it allows them. 00:22:18 TJ Baker It allows them to essentially request and say, hey, I would love a Commission and usually what I do first is and this is not how the rest and from here on out, this is not how the rest of the studios work it. 00:22:33 TJ Baker Me personally, I will usually Commission the one artwork from the person to see how it is to work. 00:22:38 TJ Baker With the artist. 00:22:40 TJ Baker And working with her, she was amazing. 00:22:42 TJ Baker She did this beautiful piece of artwork for UM our game and then I approached her and said, hey, you did really good artwork. 00:22:49 TJ Baker It was nice working with you. 00:22:51 TJ Baker I have this project. 00:22:52 TJ Baker It's a very big project. 00:22:54 TJ Baker Would you like to do it? 00:22:55 TJ Baker And when I first talked to her about it, she she really liked the. 00:22:58 TJ Baker At first she's like ohh I'm OK. 00:23:00 TJ Baker With it and when and when we and was like, OK, so this is the idea we're going in and we kind of laid it out and we had it at that time, said anything about diversity yet. 00:23:11 TJ Baker And she suddenly said, like, is this going to be a bunch of just white people? 00:23:18 TJ Baker We were like, no, we were planning to make sure that it was very diverse of just people because that's what naturism is. 00:23:26 TJ Baker It's a it's a collective group of people from around the world because, you know, we're all born naked and she. 00:23:34 TJ Baker Pounced on the project and that's the other big thing is if you are a an art lead and this is something that I've come across being an art art director is the idea of. 00:23:47 TJ Baker You want people who are very passionate about the project because they're going to bring their a game to it and want to do good, buy it and when we said yes, it's going to be very diverse. 00:23:57 TJ Baker We're going to include LGBTQ plus themes in it. 00:24:03 TJ Baker We're going to make sure that naturism and people are represented because. 00:24:09 TJ Baker We don't know who this this pack of cards is going to be. 00:24:11 TJ Baker Land in front of, but we want to make sure that at least with you're looking at it, there's might be somebody there. 00:24:16 TJ Baker You go. 00:24:17 TJ Baker That's a little like me and we want. 00:24:19 TJ Baker That and she pounced on it. 00:24:21 TJ Baker She loved the idea. 00:24:23 TJ Baker She loved the project. 00:24:25 TJ Baker She did such good work on it. 00:24:28 TJ Baker And I can also say that for our shading artist, the reason we did with a shading artist is because after I was done the coloring trying to do shading, it's very hard for me personally, but I found a person who does very good shading. 00:24:41 TJ Baker Jared and he, he brought a game as well, but when I brought brought it to him and I said, hey, I got this card game, it's basically inked colored. 00:24:50 TJ Baker I just need it shaded. 00:24:53 TJ Baker That's all you need. 00:24:53 TJ Baker To do is just shade it because. 00:24:56 TJ Baker You do some. 00:24:56 TJ Baker Beautiful shade work and I had already commissioned him for one piece of artwork. 00:25:01 TJ Baker It was nice working with him. 00:25:03 TJ Baker And when I brought this to him as well, he was like, I love this project and he actually saw himself in like, one or two cards. 00:25:11 TJ Baker He's like, this is amazing. 00:25:13 TJ Baker It's so beautiful to see people be represented and and not and not and not a sexual way either. 00:25:19 TJ Baker It's not the idea of this card game is to be Google that. 00:25:23 TJ Baker It's a card game to be played and enjoyed and go hey, that's me. 00:25:28 Stphane It it is. 00:25:28 Stphane You know, I'm. 00:25:29 Stphane I'm looking through them and it is amazing. 00:25:32 Stphane How many you've crossed off so many different? 00:25:35 Stphane I'm not sure. 00:25:36 Stphane I would have been as thorough. 00:25:38 Stphane Uh, you know, a woman who went mastectomy. 00:25:40 Stphane Somebody with alopecia, trans people, trans. 00:25:44 Stphane In a way that's always interesting because we've had a number of trans people here at Bare Oaks. 00:25:49 Stphane And when you take your clothes off, you kind of lose most of the. 00:25:53 Stphane Gender markers and then you have to decide how much of your gender is based on your physical. 00:26:02 Stphane Versus how much is in your mind and how much does it matter in in the mainstream world, of course, gender is very important and we it's all part of our identity. 00:26:12 Stphane So it's been interesting to see how people. 00:26:15 Stphane The journey they go through when they come here as trans people for the first time as naturist and trying to figure that out. 00:26:24 Stphane So Jane, when you went through all these? 00:26:25 Stphane So you came up with the list or. 00:26:28 Stphane Was there a? 00:26:29 Stphane You went did you get consult with anyone? 00:26:31 Stphane I mean, I don't know if I would have come up with. 00:26:33 Stphane How many are there? 00:26:34 Stphane How many different drawings? 00:26:36 Jane Oh my gosh, there. 00:26:38 Jane Let's see, there are 20. 00:26:43 Jane 21 different kinds of characters, so there's two per each, except for the sunburn, let's say math. There should be 40 cards of individual people, and one card of the two sunburnt characters. 00:27:03 TJ Baker Which we always knew that the sunburnt characters were. 00:27:08 Jane Going to pick up Cage. 00:27:10 Stphane Going to be. 00:27:10 Stphane What they were going to? 00:27:12 TJ Baker Be Caucasian because nobody burns more than a very pale person. 00:27:13 Stphane Ohh yeah, yes. 00:27:17 TJ Baker Alright, they they sunburn very well. 00:27:20 Stphane Yes, absolutely. 00:27:21 Stphane And they are probably the most heteronormative by. 00:27:29 Stphane Standard or whatever. 00:27:31 Stphane Yes, that's we could get. 00:27:32 Stphane So which is funny. 00:27:33 Stphane Let's burn them because they're you're. 00:27:36 TJ Baker Well, we never, we never said we never set out to uh, I think there's one or two that are Caucasian that they are Caucasian in the set itself. 00:27:46 Stphane Yes, for sure. 00:27:47 TJ Baker And like I said, it was we tried to make sure that it was 20 men and 20 women. 00:27:54 TJ Baker Now, of course, paired up with. 00:27:55 TJ Baker Other like men and women, men and. 00:27:58 TJ Baker And we tried to make sure there was a couple of non binary. 00:28:00 TJ Baker People in there. 00:28:02 Stphane And all doing all kinds of activities and and see what you know. 00:28:08 Stphane What should always say. 00:28:08 Stphane People people talk about naturism. 00:28:10 Stphane Accepting people's flaws and I say no, it's not flaws they they're just. We're all just different. Like it's just like faces. My nose is bigger than yours. Which ones better? I don't know. They just different noses. 00:28:22 Stphane If we all had the same nose, nobody would recognize each other. 00:28:24 Stphane If we had exactly the same faces. 00:28:26 Stphane So bodies are the same. 00:28:27 TJ Baker So to to build off of that. 00:28:31 TJ Baker One of the other games that uh was an inspiration to Sunbird was not just old maid. 00:28:36 TJ Baker There was another one called uninvited guest, and that one actually has like it's very generic is, I believe, a very British, old, very British Victorian game. 00:28:46 Jane It was like a Victorian tea party esque theme so there's like some people playing croquet. 00:28:53 Jane Some people like a maid and a Butler. 00:28:57 TJ Baker Yeah, it's a very it's a very dichotomy of man, woman and even though, like, they're both painters, it's always man, woman, painter. 00:29:05 TJ Baker But when we approached sunburnt, we were like well, what makes what makes naturism so impactful? 00:29:12 TJ Baker Why do people, why are people drawn to it and part of the reason I think people and this is my personal opinion, it could be your own personal journey. 00:29:20 TJ Baker It's the idea that you can be accepted for who you are no matter what you look like. 00:29:29 TJ Baker There is always somebody else out there that likes doing the same thing and that's why we decided to make our things around hobbies, not jobs, hobbies or things that people do. 00:29:42 TJ Baker You can just enjoy naked as well. 00:29:46 Stphane Are, are is everybody at table can? 00:29:49 TJ Baker No, I'm the only one. 00:29:50 Jane Need it. 00:29:50 TJ Baker I'm the only. 00:29:51 TJ Baker One she she she is. 00:29:54 TJ Baker She comes with me, she enjoys her the company, but she is not into naturism or the naturist scene as I am. 00:30:00 TJ Baker And As for our third party, he is definitely not. 00:30:06 TJ Baker But at the end of the day, when it came down to when I approached him and said, hey, I have this game that I want to do, he went cool. 00:30:13 TJ Baker Make it he, he. 00:30:15 TJ Baker Literally just went. 00:30:16 TJ Baker Make it if you have any questions, ask me. 00:30:19 TJ Baker But and whatever. 00:30:20 TJ Baker And this is the big one, he said. 00:30:22 TJ Baker Because I'm not going to be involved with this one. 00:30:25 TJ Baker Profits that the table candle makes that would go to him would go back to the company and go back into funding more projects. 00:30:33 Stphane And Jane, you didn't go. 00:30:35 Stphane Wow, this is crazy. 00:30:36 Stphane I don't want any part of that. 00:30:37 Stphane You obviously participated. 00:30:40 Jane So that goes back to like TJ and my relationship. I only just met this man in May of 2016 and it's July and he says so. So Jane, I go to this resort for my birthday. 00:31:00 Jane Every you know, every every time. 00:31:02 Jane It's my birthday. 00:31:03 Jane You're welcome to come. 00:31:04 Jane And I'm like, OK, I mean, I just met the guy, but he's really cute and he's sweet. 00:31:11 Jane And then he says, oh, by the way, it's clothing optional. 00:31:16 Jane And for like a solid 2-3 weeks, I thought about it. I said, you know what I really like this guy. 00:31:21 Jane I want to see. 00:31:24 Jane What kind of person he is, and I might as well give every one of his hobbies at least a try. 00:31:32 Jane So I said sure, I'll go. 00:31:34 Jane And I went with, like, a swimsuit. 00:31:36 Jane Cover up. It's it was. 00:31:38 Jane Black kind of see through, but not really. 00:31:41 Jane I was comfortable in that, but as soon as I walked into the resort I was like ohh everybody's naked. 00:31:49 Jane OK, well, I don't need this. 00:31:53 Jane I I'm much more of a cosplayer, which means I dress up as video game characters or show characters. 00:32:02 Jane And so I feel uncomfortable at conventions when I'm not in a in a costume. 00:32:09 Jane So in the same regards to a resort, I felt really uncomfortable in clothes while everybody else was it. 00:32:18 Stphane Yes, I see. 00:32:19 Stphane I've always wondered that if we ever create like a super popular. 00:32:23 Stphane Show that's set in a naturist. 00:32:25 Stphane World what will people do for cosplay? 00:32:30 Jane Morph suits they that I'm pretty sure they would try. 00:32:34 Jane Morph suits. 00:32:34 Stphane That's true. 00:32:35 Stphane Yes, I've seen those. 00:32:36 TJ Baker Before they there is more suits, but like anything going back to rules and art, it's all about the rules. 00:32:43 TJ Baker If you have rules, you can make some of the most beautiful artwork that has ever created. 00:32:47 TJ Baker The worst thing you can tell an artist is. 00:32:50 TJ Baker There are no rules. 00:32:52 TJ Baker Have fun. 00:32:54 TJ Baker Is the worst thing you tell an artist because and me personally. 00:32:57 TJ Baker And and if there's any artist as it's like, no, I I don't like having rules. 00:33:02 TJ Baker I want to be free. 00:33:03 TJ Baker It's like, no, no, you're free to make anything you want, but you really should impose rules upon yourself. 00:33:08 TJ Baker Because if you impose your own rules. 00:33:10 TJ Baker On yourself? 00:33:10 TJ Baker You make it a game and it becomes interesting, a problem solving challenge. 00:33:15 TJ Baker That's what life is, and that's what art. 00:33:19 Stphane Is and rules can be inspiring as well. 00:33:22 Stphane Some of the most creative things people have ever done is to try to get around rules. 00:33:25 TJ Baker That's what makes rules interesting and fun, and what makes games or saying art projects or making games or making games themselves interesting. 00:33:35 TJ Baker For example, I know that pulling off of other rule systems and other companies out there. 00:33:42 TJ Baker There, if let's say for example Dungeons and Dragons, which I will name them, they're a very big company, the the Dungeons and Dragon Crew Wizards of the Coast. 00:33:54 TJ Baker If they didn't have the rules of, hey, we're trying to go for a more fantasy setting in this set. 00:34:01 TJ Baker If if they allowed. 00:34:02 TJ Baker Like, but we can't have like majorly over technology as it were. 00:34:09 TJ Baker We can have artificers, people that can tinker with stuff, but this is the boundary we have. 00:34:16 TJ Baker You wouldn't have people flocking to it as much because when people are bound by rules, they are able to create and diversify and do great stuff. 00:34:26 TJ Baker That's why when we create a here builder, even though all the flavors. 00:34:30 TJ Baker Out there and you can make anything you want. 00:34:31 TJ Baker One of the very first things we're actually say in the game is you should set boundaries. 00:34:35 TJ Baker You should set bands you. 00:34:36 TJ Baker Should you should limit yourself even though this is a toolbox that you can make anything out of, you should limit yourself because then you can start working around in this idea of, well, what if and there are other naturist artists out there. 00:34:50 TJ Baker You see them trying to create artwork that is naturist and theme but having a hard time doing it cause you're like well, what do I draw? 00:34:58 TJ Baker What should I do? 00:34:58 TJ Baker It's like. 00:34:59 TJ Baker Just limit yourself to an idea of a story and run with it. 00:35:04 TJ Baker That's why I I'm going name. 00:35:06 TJ Baker Drop him here, Nicholas. 00:35:09 TJ Baker He's a really great artist from California. 00:35:13 TJ Baker He's a good artist as well. 00:35:14 TJ Baker He makes some really good naturist artwork and he's been he's been in the scene for a while, but he always strives to. 00:35:20 TJ Baker Create stuff that is naturist and theme as well. 00:35:24 TJ Baker I will name drop him. 00:35:25 TJ Baker He is a he's a really nice nice guy. 00:35:28 TJ Baker There are others as. 00:35:28 Stphane Well, when I in in the 80s when I was in my. 00:35:33 Stphane Early 20s. 00:35:34 Stphane I played Dungeons and Dragons. 00:35:36 Stphane Actually, before that, even before I was in my 20s and back when they used to be very concerned in the media that this was Satan worship, which frankly made it more interesting for us, even though it was absolutely ridiculous. 00:35:51 Stphane So, you know, those kinds of things. 00:35:53 Stphane Can actually, uh make games work? 00:35:56 Stphane Is that that that it gets they're rebellion and get people to have fun. 00:36:01 Stphane So yeah, and Dragons is an interesting game I haven't played in a long time long. 00:36:05 Stphane Long time. 00:36:08 Stphane Jane, yes. 00:36:09 Stphane So I go, I'm going through all this. 00:36:11 Stphane There is. 00:36:13 Stphane One category I'm curious about there's a toddler who's nursing. 00:36:18 Jane That's my favorite. 00:36:21 Stphane And possibly an infant. 00:36:23 Jane That's my favorite, the parents. 00:36:26 Stphane There's a toddler's nursing and possibly an infant in a a a pram, although like we can't tell that for sure, but it seems likely the toddler is cold. 00:36:30 Jane Oh pram. 00:36:37 Stphane 3rd up and other than that, there's no youth. 00:36:40 Stphane Is that intentional or is that OK? 00:36:44 Jane So it it was intentional, the the they're parents, they're they're both the father and the mother, the fathers reaching down for the teddy bear and the the infant is in fact twins. 00:36:55 Stphane Right. 00:36:55 Stphane Yeah, yeah. 00:36:59 Jane The pram is A2 baby pram. 00:37:04 Jane And we depict it in that way because we wanted the two parents to be parents. 00:37:11 Jane But unfortunately, due to society and the negativity with men with being naked, with children. 00:37:23 Jane We decided to do a very eloquent way of depicting a father caring for not only his wife, but his. 00:37:33 Jane So he's holding the other pram, but you can't see the child. 00:37:37 Stphane You were. 00:37:38 Stphane You're concerned that you were not going to sell as many games, or were you concerned you might actually be charged? 00:37:43 Stphane By the law. 00:37:44 Jane It wasn't so much the law, it was more of controversy that we were worried about. 00:37:49 Jane We weren't worried about like the cards. 00:37:51 Jane Being not being sold. 00:37:53 TJ Baker So I if if I may, if I may jump in there, I I actually have an ask, a follow-up answer to that. 00:38:00 TJ Baker When it came down to. 00:38:01 TJ Baker To the those two cards, obviously in the nursing one was great. 00:38:07 TJ Baker We loved it when she for and when we we literally just gave her like these are the parents and this is their race. 00:38:16 TJ Baker This is what we're kind of going for. 00:38:19 TJ Baker We never really said anything and when she got back to us with the father, she originally had the father depicted with the kid holding, holding the kid up and kind of like smiling and going. 00:38:30 TJ Baker Hey, and we liked that first and but then as we started looking at we were like, OK, so we have to consider contexts and. 00:38:40 TJ Baker In context of the game and playing the game, no problem, nothing, nothing bad. 00:38:45 TJ Baker But if I were to and this is part of my job, is to look at something and go, hey, somebody can take this and take it out of context and try to put a spin on it. 00:38:57 TJ Baker How would that work? 00:38:59 TJ Baker And I was like, you know what? 00:39:00 TJ Baker If I wanted to. 00:39:03 TJ Baker Raise a fuss and get people to be angry at like naturists and go like we'll see. 00:39:09 TJ Baker They're they're trying to make the kids naked. 00:39:13 TJ Baker They're trying to force them. 00:39:15 TJ Baker They're look at this card where it's a man holding up a kid. 00:39:19 TJ Baker No other context, not showing the mother. 00:39:22 TJ Baker If you just look at that. 00:39:23 TJ Baker With just that context, you're going to, and this is, and if you look at your own logo as well, just to kind of point out it context, you can't take that whole logo out of context because it's a family. 00:39:34 TJ Baker The whole thing is right there. 00:39:36 TJ Baker But if you but you could easily take the father out of context and put a a very bad spin on it. 00:39:44 TJ Baker So that's why we were like, you know what, it's probably best if we have the kid in the stroller, but make it so that it's obviously he's interacting with another one and that would be the mom nursing because most countries and most places are pretty. 00:39:58 TJ Baker OK, with kids nursing and As for the continuation of the question of youth and why there's no youth in it, we really wanted it to be about adults. 00:40:09 TJ Baker I know in the naturist setting there are going to be families that will play this game and. 00:40:15 TJ Baker If you depict a youth just by themselves, you once again open up to this idea of taking this thing out of context or using it in in a more in a way that was never intended and that is a problem that I have had extensive talks with other naturist. 00:40:35 TJ Baker Other naturist artists on is this idea of like, well, why can't we have kids are innocent. 00:40:40 TJ Baker They're useful. 00:40:41 TJ Baker It's like, yes, but you can't have your cake and eat it too. 00:40:46 TJ Baker The wider world. 00:40:47 Stphane Yes, but when when people misuse my images, it's on them not on me. 00:40:52 Stphane That doesn't make my image wrong. 00:40:54 Stphane I make I can. 00:40:55 Stphane I could get off on some of your other images too. 00:40:58 Stphane Whatever my fetish is. 00:41:00 Stphane So does your. 00:41:02 Stphane You're feeding that too? 00:41:03 Stphane If you if that's your concern. 00:41:05 Stphane What's the difference? 00:41:06 TJ Baker The difference is the difference is and I'm not going to say that there is a difference. 00:41:11 TJ Baker There is a difference. 00:41:12 TJ Baker The moment you. 00:41:12 TJ Baker Put something out there. 00:41:13 TJ Baker People are going to misuse it. 00:41:15 TJ Baker The best thing you can do is be cognizant of it and try your best to. 00:41:22 TJ Baker Hate it. 00:41:23 TJ Baker For example, looking at your logo, you've done your best to try to negate it. 00:41:27 TJ Baker Are there people going to be using it? 00:41:29 TJ Baker Yes, there are going to be people who would use it out of context and for bad reasons, just like anything else. 00:41:36 TJ Baker I mean, you could pick up anything. 00:41:38 Stphane Yeah, I'll, I'll. 00:41:40 Stphane I'll have to jump in and tell you I didn't try to negate it. 00:41:42 Stphane I just want to make sure that I don't get censored by Facebook and Twitter and everybody else all the time. 00:41:47 Stphane So that's more my concern. 00:41:49 Stphane I I'm not trying to negate it any more than I would tell a woman not to wear a short skirt because she might get raped. 00:41:54 Stphane I'm not going to tell people not to take pictures of their children because somebody might misuse it. 00:41:58 Stphane It's on the people, in my opinion, this is my opinion and we've become far too. 00:42:02 Stphane We we are giving in and we are adapting to the pedophiles instead of going after them. 00:42:09 Stphane We're the ones that are changing our lives and not personally. 00:42:12 Stphane I I I just think that's wrong. 00:42:13 Stphane I'm not criticizing you specifically. 00:42:15 Stphane What you're doing. 00:42:15 Stphane I understand. 00:42:17 Stphane I understand why many people making that decision, but it's, I assume, well, I don't know. 00:42:22 Stphane I will ask you straight out. 00:42:23 Stphane Do you think there's anything wrong with children being in a naturist environment? 00:42:29 Stphane No, no. 00:42:30 Stphane So it's not the children per se. 00:42:31 Stphane It's not what they're doing. 00:42:32 Stphane They're not. 00:42:33 Stphane It's it's and. 00:42:34 Stphane And in terms of getting in trouble or getting upset. 00:42:39 Stphane It might this picture possibly even be illegal. Now in some of your states in the United States right now I'm showing for the people who are can't see a woman's body with a penis. Yes, the. Yeah, the transgender woman. 00:42:52 Jane So yeah, yes. 00:42:53 TJ Baker The transgender woman. 00:42:56 TJ Baker Oh, definitely, yeah. 00:42:57 Jane In fact, I'm pretty sure in some states it'd be completely banned just be being naked. 00:43:03 TJ Baker That actually brings me to when we were trying to originally bring this to production, our very first printer we went with and we're like, hey, we want this and they got back to me and went, hey, we can make one copy, but we can't make any more because. 00:43:17 TJ Baker We're based in China. 00:43:18 Stphane The Chinese and we're like, really. 00:43:22 Stphane Interesting, no. 00:43:24 TJ Baker We, but we went with the game crafters because they're a print on demand. 00:43:31 TJ Baker They're United States based and they ship internationally and they make really good products and not just sunburnt. 00:43:38 TJ Baker They make a bunch of other indie, yeah. 00:43:41 TJ Baker Tabletop games out there. 00:43:44 Stphane As well, you know I'm not. 00:43:46 Stphane I'm just asking questions and I don't mean to. 00:43:49 Stphane I'm not being critical specifically of what you've done. 00:43:52 Stphane I think you've done a fabulous job, but I'm always interested how decisions are made when it comes to nudity and. 00:44:00 Stphane We do, we have to compromise. 00:44:02 Stphane I did compromise in the logo. 00:44:03 Stphane I am. 00:44:03 Stphane It is very stylized and even as stylized it is that logo for the naturist living show has been a problem at times for me. 00:44:10 Stphane Just because there are children in it, but I'm frankly, I'm I personally getting tired of self censoring myself. 00:44:20 Stphane And as people who are into the arts, you must appreciate that. 00:44:22 Stphane That the most insidious censorship is not the one imposed by the government because it rarely is. 00:44:28 Stphane It's the one that's imposed because we're afraid of societies reaction. 00:44:33 TJ Baker It's true, and it's it's kind of boils down to underlying problems. 00:44:40 TJ Baker But going off on the idea of self censorship, yes, it sucks to have self censorship would. 00:44:45 TJ Baker I prefer a world where. 00:44:46 TJ Baker We could just go full blown and just have anything we want. 00:44:51 TJ Baker Yes, 100%. I rather have wonderful works of art that's depicts some some of those wonderful things out there. 00:45:00 TJ Baker Or just in general things that we don't normally see. 00:45:04 TJ Baker The ultimate problem though, is we are bound by the tech overlords and their I wouldn't call it Puritan. 00:45:12 TJ Baker It always boils down to a bottom line, and the most vocal out there are the ones who are well. 00:45:25 TJ Baker And they will complain. 00:45:27 TJ Baker Publishing it. 00:45:28 TJ Baker No, it really is. 00:45:29 TJ Baker It's it's Pearl clutching and it's not. 00:45:31 TJ Baker And it's not just nudity you brought up with our one card. 00:45:34 TJ Baker Yes is. 00:45:36 TJ Baker It would definitely be 100% banned in Florida. And yes, I am going to call out Florida. I don't like Florida right now. 00:45:42 TJ Baker They have my ID. 00:45:44 Jane No, we don't like Florida. 00:45:45 TJ Baker I like the people in Florida. 00:45:46 Stphane Well, Mr. 00:45:47 Stphane De Santis might be your your president. 00:45:51 Jane He can suck. 00:45:54 TJ Baker Yes he can. 00:45:55 TJ Baker Suck an egg and. 00:45:56 TJ Baker I, but let's keep it to to some burning questions about that because you are correct, it would be banned in some countries and but so far from what I've been told and nobody said anything is sunburns is still available. 00:46:10 TJ Baker In the wide of you in the wider world of the United States, and here's the big thing, your copy of sunburns is actually different than the one that is for for sale, just available. 00:46:21 Stphane Oh yeah. 00:46:22 Jane On our website we have basic sunbird cards. 00:46:26 Jane Yours, sunbird cards has. 00:46:30 TJ Baker Your logo on it and that and you can only get that from you from your resort and we and we want to facilitate this idea of not just your resort but other. 00:46:42 TJ Baker And I know other people would be listening to this is the idea of. 00:46:47 TJ Baker Even though it's the same deck, you can we would love to work with other resorts. 00:46:53 TJ Baker We want to because we want to do what we did for you, which was create a specialized deck that promotes your resort as well and show, hey, we really value these things and. 00:47:06 TJ Baker Part of the reason, and I will, I will not lie. 00:47:09 TJ Baker It's part of the reason why we made. 00:47:10 TJ Baker Some Burt was hey. 00:47:13 TJ Baker When we were out, when we were at a different naturist, different naturist resort when we were just hanging around, we're like, you know, there's really nothing to do unless you want to get in the pool or play badminton or drink, there's pool and everything. 00:47:30 TJ Baker But there's no like game that's designed to just be hey. 00:47:33 TJ Baker A naturist game. 00:47:35 TJ Baker So that's what we did and we made that and when we've actually shown it at uh other when we've taken it to the. 00:47:41 TJ Baker Resorts when we go personally, we get a good amount of people just coming over and go, hey, what's this? 00:47:48 TJ Baker And they they love the cards, they love the decks, they they, they go off on it. 00:47:53 TJ Baker I will. 00:47:54 TJ Baker I will. 00:47:54 TJ Baker 100% say no matter what, there's always that one person that will pull out the transgender woman and go. 00:48:01 Speaker 2 Beat this. 00:48:04 Even though there's all these. 00:48:05 TJ Baker Other penises in there? 00:48:06 TJ Baker They always pull that one. 00:48:07 Go penis. 00:48:09 Stphane Well, that's. 00:48:10 Stphane But I can also see the children doing that. 00:48:12 Stphane So that's which is always fun. 00:48:15 Stphane So how are the sales going? 00:48:17 Stphane I'm guessing I've been your biggest sales. 00:48:19 TJ Baker Yes, you have been our biggest sale and and this actually brings into trying to market. 00:48:26 TJ Baker It's very hard to market this this game because you have to essentially put behind because of tech overlords and the bigger one essentially what we have to do is we have to go through advertisers and the advertisers. 00:48:41 TJ Baker Well, we don't particularly wanna get, like, sued by Karen on the freeway. 00:48:47 TJ Baker But we have found ways to get around it. 00:48:50 TJ Baker We have found that there are ways to advertise it, but the main problem is just getting in front of the people who are very interested, who would be like, hey, that's really cool. 00:48:59 TJ Baker It's been just kind. 00:49:00 TJ Baker Of hard. 00:49:01 TJ Baker Getting the word out, as it were, which we're actually hoping that people who are listening to this podcast. 00:49:06 TJ Baker You know the naturist living show great podcast, by the way. 00:49:10 TJ Baker I love this show. 00:49:11 Stphane Thank you. 00:49:13 TJ Baker We hope that you guys hear this and. 00:49:16 TJ Baker Go. Hey, maybe I wanna. 00:49:17 TJ Baker Maybe I want. 00:49:18 TJ Baker Maybe I wanna go down to maybe I wanna go to. 00:49:21 TJ Baker Canada and go to that resort. 00:49:22 Stphane Yes, although frankly, if you're in the United States, it would be a lot more cost effective to order it directly from you guys because anything cross-border makes no sense. So we we will be offering this for sale. 00:49:35 Stphane On our online store, which I'm about to. 00:49:37 Stphane Launch, but I know shipping stuff to the US. 00:49:40 Stphane Is it just suddenly the price goes crazy so. 00:49:44 TJ Baker Oh yeah, definitely. 00:49:45 TJ Baker And the the big thing is the and reality. 00:49:48 TJ Baker While you're putting it on your online shop. 00:49:51 TJ Baker And definitely, if you really want to get it, get through you guys as well. 00:49:55 TJ Baker If you're in Canada, but if if you're in, but if you're like going, hey, I I want I go to that. 00:50:03 TJ Baker I go to the resort. 00:50:04 TJ Baker And I want I want my resorts deck of cars. 00:50:09 TJ Baker Yeah, we we want that we've also. 00:50:13 TJ Baker We've also created a specialized deck for UMA, another naturist, another naturist group, but they wanted only a couple packs and they didn't realize and this is the big thing. 00:50:27 TJ Baker When you buy. 00:50:28 TJ Baker Through the game crafters, it's going to take a while to make and print. 00:50:32 TJ Baker And send it to you. 00:50:33 TJ Baker So don't go like, hey, I want this Christmas gift, and it's December. 00:50:39 TJ Baker You're not going to get it for Christmas. 00:50:41 Stphane Unless you drive to Bare oaks and buy it from your store. 00:50:47 TJ Baker Good bare oaks by the decks. 00:50:49 Stphane So how long? 00:50:50 Stphane What is? 00:50:50 Stphane How long does it take? 00:50:51 Stphane What is the turn around when you order? 00:50:53 Stphane Because each one for you is made. 00:50:55 Stphane Yes, we we did a bulk order, we got a big box of them in order to get our logo on it. 00:51:00 Stphane But if you're ordering one off, how long does it take? 00:51:03 TJ Baker It usually takes and they have it in there cause ebbs and flows in demand because people are buying and they're trying to make other games as well ebbs and flows. 00:51:13 TJ Baker But usually the longest I've seen is 3 months. 00:51:17 TJ Baker It usually is like I've seen it come in a month. 00:51:20 TJ Baker I've seen it come in two months. 00:51:22 TJ Baker I've seen it come in three months. 00:51:23 TJ Baker The longest I've seen has been three months. 00:51:25 TJ Baker I I think there was one case of somebody saying, hey, I ordered I ordered from you guys were like, no, you ordered from the game crafters and have you checked your shipment order? 00:51:38 TJ Baker Because we're not handling it. 00:51:39 TJ Baker We're just the IP owners and they're like, well, it's been four months. 00:51:44 TJ Baker And like, maybe you should contact the game crafters and see what's going on because they are based in the United States and ever since COVID NIT, they've been running a bit short and the only reason the only reason I know about the game crafters is because I bought a different game from them. 00:52:03 TJ Baker Like after I was like man looking for somebody to make this new this card game, I wonder who could do it? 00:52:10 TJ Baker Ohh, there's this game that's about SCP. 00:52:14 TJ Baker Secure contain protect great game. 00:52:16 TJ Baker I love it. 00:52:17 TJ Baker I'm going to get it. 00:52:17 TJ Baker I'm going to get all the packs. 00:52:19 TJ Baker Wait, this is a print on demand thing. 00:52:20 TJ Baker Can I make it? 00:52:22 TJ Baker And I went through the process. 00:52:23 TJ Baker And they are. 00:52:24 TJ Baker And because they are based in the United States, they they want to do this idea of we want to make the game you want. 00:52:30 TJ Baker Just go by the rules and of course, if you go into the game Crafter says 18 + 2 actually order anything but that's. 00:52:36 TJ Baker Just because they're. 00:52:36 TJ Baker Covering and once again we get into. 00:52:38 TJ Baker To the corporate, Pearl clutching is that I don't blame them, because in reality, there's always that one Karen that is going to make such a fuss and you're not able to deal with that if you don't have the pocketbook or you don't have the time, it's really hard to fight back against somebody who's Pearl clutching. 00:52:57 Stphane And our apologies to all the Karens who. 00:52:58 Stphane Are listening. 00:53:00 TJ Baker I yes, I apologize that Karen has become the word of, like, the younger generations to describe somebody I have actually met some very wonderful people who are named Karen. 00:53:10 TJ Baker And they're so nice. 00:53:11 TJ Baker And I go thank you very much. 00:53:12 TJ Baker Karen and I feel so sorry for them because I'm like, I'm so sorry. 00:53:17 TJ Baker Your names, Karen. 00:53:17 TJ Baker And you're such a nice person. 00:53:20 Stphane Yes, 2 two of our former managers here were named Karen as well. 00:53:23 Stphane So, but they they weren't complainers. 00:53:26 Stphane They were people that were ones that every complained too. 00:53:30 Stphane So just out of curiosity, why does it take so long to produce to print again? 00:53:36 Stphane Because I can order a print on the man book and it only takes days to to produce and ship. 00:53:41 TJ Baker So they are also a very small company and like I said, they're based in the United States and they have to get the parts they have to make it they and not just make it, but they're also doing a bunch of other people's games. 00:53:53 TJ Baker And they are a smaller company. 00:53:55 TJ Baker It's not like Amazon, which has like Jimmy, working down there just constantly. 00:54:01 TJ Baker Making out books and they they from what I can tell and I could be wrong, they treat their workers fairly. 00:54:08 TJ Baker They compensate them well. 00:54:10 TJ Baker It's all made in the United States and. 00:54:12 TJ Baker From what I can tell. 00:54:14 TJ Baker And just going on our own business practices, our artists actually make royalties. 00:54:19 TJ Baker So whenever you buy some burnt, you're not just supporting the table candle or you're not just supporting Bare oaks. 00:54:26 TJ Baker If you buy your guys's version, the artists themselves actually get percentage of royalties. Everybody does all artists. Everybody who works on it. 00:54:35 TJ Baker Gets a percentage of the profit well after. 00:54:38 TJ Baker Advertisements and other things. The profit of the deck that you buy gets split amongst the artists I believe. Currently I I actually forfeit my profits to go towards the table candle and just fund more passion projects and just keep the lights on. But our artist iolanda she actually gets 40%. 00:54:59 TJ Baker And the shading artist got 10%. The reason for the big difference is because she came up with all the designs she did all the line art. 00:55:07 TJ Baker She did all a bunch of stuff for it. 00:55:10 TJ Baker She essentially did the ground work, and when it came down to the shading work he all all he really had to do was go in and just. 00:55:16 TJ Baker Essentially make give it depth and he was OK with that particular percentage because he didn't do as much. 00:55:24 TJ Baker All he had to do was just essentially Polish out. 00:55:26 TJ Baker But that's our big thing is if you're an artist and you worked with us, we tried to make sure that you will get a percentage of that final product because, well, you deserve it. 00:55:36 TJ Baker You help make it. 00:55:38 TJ Baker And that's my $0.02. 00:55:39 Stphane So and if any club out there orders enough, what's how many games do they have to order in order to get a? 00:55:45 Stphane Customized one like we did. 00:55:46 TJ Baker Quite literally, all they have to do is just buy one and then we say with the extra little cost of having to go through and change out the logos. 00:55:54 TJ Baker But once we have your deck done, we will charge it just like. 00:55:59 TJ Baker Just for you, we will charge it just like if you were buying all the normal packs. 00:56:04 TJ Baker It's just a little upfront cost of like, hey, I have to go in and just change these files and make a separate folder and just. 00:56:10 Stphane Have it, but if if you order large quantities, the price does go down right? 00:56:14 TJ Baker Yes, it does go down. 00:56:15 TJ Baker You can order and it does go down in large bulk orders and you would go through us directly, not go through the sites because the site if you buy it from them, we get a percentage and you're buying it at essentially how how we would get for the profit. 00:56:30 TJ Baker So if you want to get get it from us for both. 00:56:35 TJ Baker We we offer a little bit cheaper so you can sell it at a reasonable price in your stores. 00:56:41 Stphane Right, everybody's entitled to make a profit. 00:56:43 Stphane That's normal. 00:56:44 TJ Baker It is the minimum bulk order starts at 10. 00:56:48 TJ Baker Of course, the more you buy, the lower the cost goes. 00:56:53 TJ Baker So I think it was. 00:56:56 TJ Baker And this is just me. If you're a resort and you're trying to buy from us, I would recommend like 100 just to because it would be more cost effective. 00:57:05 TJ Baker And after 100, it doesn't really start going down into like 300. So really a hundred is a nice big bulk order if you can get it. 00:57:15 TJ Baker But we do offer 10203050 and then it goes to 100. 00:57:21 Stphane There are some large spaces out there that can easily order hundreds and hundreds of them. 00:57:26 Stphane And that's that's becomes interesting. 00:57:28 Stphane We we're all entitled to make money. 00:57:30 Stphane That's what makes this world go around. 00:57:31 Stphane Whether you like it or. 00:57:32 Stphane One more question, if they're ordering a larger quantity, can they customize your instruction card into another language because it's the only part that's English of it? 00:57:43 Stphane Other than that you it's it's it's universal. 00:57:46 TJ Baker Yes, actually. 00:57:47 TJ Baker And this and this is just me personally I I am not, I only speak English and it's my second language because I never had a first language because I'm dyslexic. 00:57:57 TJ Baker What it boils down to is if you want to order it in a different language. 00:58:01 TJ Baker I will, once we have it on file, literally if you want it customized, all you have to do is order the one customized for a little extra cost from us and we will make it a customized version. 00:58:13 TJ Baker If it's into a different language, we want to make sure that we get the typeface right. 00:58:19 TJ Baker We want to make sure that it's translated correctly. 00:58:21 TJ Baker Because I will translate it if you give me the the text that I could copy and paste, I can make it. 00:58:27 TJ Baker I can make it look good and then send it to you. 00:58:29 TJ Baker And you, of course, take a look and go. 00:58:31 TJ Baker It's like, OK, this French word that you have. 00:58:34 TJ Baker Placed here needs to be here. 00:58:37 Stphane But don't worry, when you do it in French, you're you're also going to find out you don't have enough space and you have to make it type smaller because there's. 00:58:43 Stphane It's always longer in French, definitely. 00:58:46 TJ Baker But yeah, you can order it in a different language from us directly, and once we have that on file the way I see it is if you order in French, if you order in Spanish, if you. 00:58:58 TJ Baker If you do order it, you actually open up the possibility for us offering it for sale on the game Crafter as a separate project of like, sunburnt Spanish version. 00:59:10 TJ Baker Like if you if you want it, we'll make it and then we'll make it available for everybody else. 00:59:15 TJ Baker So essentially, if you buy into the system, the system helps. 00:59:19 Jane None of us on the team are multilingual. 00:59:23 Jane We're all dyslexic. 00:59:25 TJ Baker All three of us are dyslexic. 00:59:28 Stphane Well, I can certainly do French. 00:59:29 Stphane That's my mother tongue. 00:59:30 Stphane So we could do that. 00:59:30 Stphane But I'm sure there's lots of people out there if once they see this, they're gonna want to do it for their other countries. 00:59:35 Stphane And there are lots of people who listen to. 00:59:36 Stphane This show, who are not native English speakers and are not in an English country, but they're fluent enough in English that they are still interested, so you might get people contacting you so so just to summarize, if you want to order one, you do it through the website, which we'll put on the show notes if you want. 00:59:57 Stphane Customize one. 00:59:58 Stphane You can do one through the website as well. 01:00:00 Stphane Right. 01:00:01 Stphane And if you want to customize a larger quantity or if you want to get a wholesale cost. 01:00:08 Stphane Then you should contact you guys directly. 01:00:11 TJ Baker Yes, and customizing individually, like if you just want one pack customized, go through us because we're the ones that make that customization and furthering and furthering the. 01:00:21 Stphane Ohh OK. 01:00:24 TJ Baker And I I do not lie about the percentages by the way. 01:00:29 TJ Baker If you essentially, if you go hey. 01:00:32 TJ Baker I want to for example, let's say French. 01:00:36 TJ Baker I want to have a French version available. 01:00:38 TJ Baker I'll go cool. 01:00:40 TJ Baker It costs this much to make one pack, and because it essentially I have to put the work in to make sure it looks good and taking the language and just running it by the person who speaks the native language on just go is this. 01:00:52 TJ Baker Is this comprehensible in your guys's language? And I would I would have to OK with my my group. 01:00:58 TJ Baker I think it would be OK if we if you go. Hey, I want a French version offered. And you work with us and we make that French version. You of course, have put in labor into it. And of course you can only get the barracks addition through US1 way or the other. 01:10:52 Stphane So that's the way it's gonna have to be. And as you heard, it takes a while.
