A bear was spotted on Wednesday night near the garbage bin. While this is the first confirmed sighting that we know of, we have been told by the Ministry of Natural Resources that they do live in our area. They are rare and generally stay away from people and residences. And we want it to remain that way. In particular, we want to avoid having “smells and treats” that might invite him further into the park (bird feeders, hummingbird feeders, pet food, composting etc.) as bears at this time of year are looking for food before hibernation.

The following link has some great information both about what attracts bears and what to do if you encounter a bear. The MNR will not intervene unless the bear becomes a nuisance, but any sightings should be reported.
