Many of our members enjoy gardening and some have volunteered to help maintain the plants and gardens around the park. For many years, Frank did most of that work on his own. But starting last year, a number of new volunteers took over. As many already know, Larry “Gummy” Rafferty passed away on May 18th after many years of bravely fighting a variety of cancers. He worked with dedication and passion to maintain both Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park and its predecessor, The New Forest Family Naturist Resort. He was also one its best ambassadors. Last fall a coin was minted to commemorate the 40th anniversary (1972-2012) of the founding of the Toronto Helios Society that eventually became Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park. The coin is officially called the Bare Oaks Sestertius. One side features Bare Oaks’ Nude Family Emblem while the other side displays the International Naturist Federation (INF) logo. The INF, which was founded in 1953, is the umbrella organization bringing together the various national naturist federations throughout the world. We’ve grown tremendously over the last 6 years and that has put a strain on our infrastructure. Last summer, we had over 2,200 visits by non-members. So as an example, a busy weekend now means hundreds of showers in the morning which has led water outages. So this year we’re doing a number of projects to increase our capacity. Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park is hosting it’s second annual clothing drive Saturday, May 11th from 10am to 1pm. Visitors bringing an item of clothing for donation will save 50% on their ground fees. We heard there was a need for various items at local shelters and, with the community spirit that is Bare Oaks, we decided to rise to the call.
