Empowered by the success of the performances of The Vagina Monologues last summer, the cast has formed the Bare Oaks Players. They are joined by several other members of Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park who share a passion for theater and performance. The troupe is now made up of a variety of people aged 17 to 55 with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. They are working to select new pieces to perform throughout the year. Their next event will be June 22 at 1pm. It is called Solstice Potluck Poetry. It’s great to see the creation of a theater troupe at the park.Read More →

Yesterday, Linda and I attended the premiere of the Untitled Feminist Show at Harbourfront Centre’s Fleck Dance Theatre. We found the show entertaining, engaging,Read More →

On International Women’s Day 2012 (March 8) a group of women launched The Nude Photo Revolutionaries Calendar in support of Aliaa Magda Elmahdy. In October 2011, Elmahdy, a 20-year old Egyptian university student, posted a full-length nude photo of herself on her blog in a protest against free-expression and her society’s attitude towards women. The reaction was, not surprisingly, intense and polarizing.  Elmahdy’s blog received millions of visits. She became the target of enumerable death threats. But she also received extensive support from individuals and women’s rights groups including a group of Iranian women and men who risked death by posing nude with slogans against IslamicRead More →
