A little over 8 months later, the bridge on Kennedy Road is open. When travelling to Bare Oaks from the south, you can again drive up Kennedy Road from Mount Albert Road.
The previous bridge was being repaired every few years because it was an old wood structure that lacked a proper foundation. So York Region planned to rebuild it completely. It was supposed to start the first week of July 2023. The road bridge was closed on July 19th and construction started a few weeks later. It was announced as a 3-month closure. On October 30th, they announced a delay until the end of the year. Then on December 19th, the timeline was further extended to March 31st, 2024. They apparently encountered significant difficulties with a high water table that was further hindered by an unusually wet summer.
York Region’s March 28th announcement of the opening adds: “While the majority of work is complete, construction crews will be returning in the coming months to complete final work requiring a lane closure.”
