We have made changes to the dates of the two volleyball tournaments. Starting this year, they will be held on:

  • Bare Oaks Bash Naturist Volleyball Tournament – 2nd weekend in July
  • Lee Baxandall Memorial Volleyball Tournament – 2nd weekend in August

Note: We count the first weekend of the month as the one with the first Saturday.

So in 2026, that means:

  • Bare Oaks Bash Naturist Volleyball Tournament – July 10-12, 2026
  • Lee Baxandall Memorial Volleyball Tournament – August 7-9, 2026

We realize that some people have already made reservations based on our traditional dates. So until March 31st, reservations that were made for the former volleyball weekends can be modified or cancelled at no charge.

History of Volleyball at Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park

Our first volleyball tournament was held in 2007. We picked the July 1st long weekend (Canada Day) because it was between two established tournaments – the Ponderosa Nature Resort’s would be before ours at the end of June and the Four Seasons Nudist Resort’s would be after ours. In 2011 we added a second tournament, the Lee Baxandall Memorial Volleyball Tournament in August to meet the demand.

The Reason for the Change

It started with a need to change the August tournament from the 3rd weekend to the 2nd weekend to avoid a conflict with another volleyball event. But for years we had also been experiencing a conflict during the first tournament. The July long weekend is very popular for everyone. It is the Canada Day celebration, the kids are just out of school, and warm weather is almost guaranteed. It is the first big summer weekend. As a result, we were running out of space for everyone. There were not enough campsites, rooms, or cabins. There was not enough room on the front lawns as the extra volleyball courts took up most of the space. The restaurant could barely keep up. The Bare Oaks team was overwhelmed. It was particularly stressful for the high school students who often had just started working a few days earlier and were just beginning to learn how to do their jobs.

By moving the tournament to the second weekend in July we make more room for everyone. We can also put more focus on serving the needs of the various groups. Of course, this is also good financially. We need to maximize Bare Oaks’ income to insure our long-term viability.
