Working on a laptop outside at Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park

Now that we have a fibre optic internet feed, it has become clear that we must replace our WiFi network. The current system on the property has been in place for well over a decade and there have been a number of upgrades over the years. But there is no getting away from the fact that it is a limited system that was built in an ad hoc manner. With the addition of the high speed wireless connection 3 years ago and now the fibre connection, the demand for streaming entertainment and video conferencing has been steadily growing. We need a WiFi system that willRead More →

Today, we are allowed to enter Stage 3 Reopening. That means: All sports activities are now allowed as long as they don’t include “Prolonged or deliberate contact while playing sports.” That means that Volleyball is back! The Bare Bistro‘s indoor dining room is now open, The playground is now open. All indoor spaces are now open but saunas remain closed by government order. The hot tub will be open as soon as approved by the health department. By law, an inspection is required before a commercial hot tub is allowed to open. That inspection is currently scheduled for Wednesday July 29th.  All details of whatRead More →

For many years, our internet service was so slow that if more than a dozen people were using it at the same time, it became difficult just to load a simple web page. Then for 2018 we finally managed to get decent high speed by way of a dedicated wireless connection. Suddenly it was possible for many people to watch streaming video at the same time! But as more and more people took advantage, it became obvious that the WiFi network was no longer up to the task. We upgraded a number of pieces of equipment but Beckett Circle was always slow on busy weekends.Read More →

We have been struggling for several weeks to repair a major leak under the hot tub. The biggest problem has been accessing the area in order to do the repair. After many calls, one company finally showed up and thought we wanted the hot tub completely removed. (e.g. cut out and disposed of) 😲We informed them of our actual plans so they left and never came back. 😒 A second company declined after many calls. 😞 Feeling deeply frustrated, our team decided to build a lifting rig themselves. They did a very good job so next time it will be faster. But hopefully there won’tRead More →

As we announced in December, we now have a very fast high-speed internet connection. We have spent the last 3 months testing the system, fine-tuning the network, and replacing some equipment with faster hardware. While we’ve had a few outages for short periods of time, the internet has generally proven to be quite reliable and very, very fast! So we are confident enough to offer a premium plan for an unlimited WiFi internet subscription. Here are the details: Unlimited data use. People who purchase daily, weekly, or monthly tickets will continue to be restricted if they use a lot of data. e.g. watching videos on YouTubeRead More →

After 10 years of frustration, we finally have a super-fast internet connection to the outside world through Vianet. It’s like we’ve gone from dial-up to fibre! (a dedicated, bidirectional 100Mbps connection for the geeks out there)Read More →

Today we applied a solution of Magnesium Chloride to minimize road dust. We did this last year and it was very effective. As anybody who visited Bare Oaks in the last week has certainly noticed, we also did a lot of work this week on the main road to improve drainage. About Magnesium Chloride: Unlike other dust control agents (e.g. Calcium Chloride) it: Generally does not cause skin irritation Is less toxic than regular salt or baking soda Does not damage plants (except if sprayed directly on the leaves — like any fertilizer) Will last the entire season with only one application An MSDS sheetRead More →

There is now an old school video game machine downstairs in the clubhouse. The game may be old school but the system is all new. So instead of just one game, you have the choice of 12 licensed Classic 80’s video games such as Pac-Man, Galaxian and Galaga. Unlike modern video games, these are very easy to understand. And unlike handheld games, the large console is not isolating. Everyone gets to watch and cheer you on! …or criticize your technique 🙂 Retro games should have retro prices so each play is 25 cents. We’re not likely to ever make any money this way. But neitherRead More →

Bare Oaks is considering installing a dedicated fibre-optic internet feed. That would provide speeds of more than 1,000 megabits per second which is more than enough bandwidth for everyone to watch video services like Netflix. But the cost is very high. So before we proceed, we need to make sure that there is enough demand to cover the expense. Please help us by answering a few questions. Take the survey: http://skyclad.me/internetRead More →

The new mini-golf is now open! Everyone is welcome to play.  Putters and golf balls are available in the office. This was not a Bare Oaks undertaking. Rather, it is the fulfillment of 3 years of dedication and perseverance by several Bare Oaks members who wanted to create a project that would enhance their park. Paul, one of the main organizers, tells the story as follows: The idea germinated during discussions between members during the summer of 2008. Fundraising started September 2008 and ran through May 2010.  The money was raised though numerous dances and casual meals offered by members over the winter seasons.  TheRead More →
