We have been struggling for several weeks to repair a major leak under the hot tub. The biggest problem has been accessing the area in order to do the repair. After many calls, one company finally showed up and thought we wanted the hot tub completely removed. (e.g. cut out and disposed of) 😲We informed them of our actual plans so they left and never came back. 😒 A second company declined after many calls. 😞 Feeling deeply frustrated, our team decided to build a lifting rig themselves. They did a very good job so next time it will be faster. But hopefully there won’tRead More →

The pool is now open for the season! But with a new season comes new government regulations. Despite the fact that our water treatment system is fully automated, we now need to test every 4 hours to confirm that the system is actually working. Previously, testing in the morning was deemed adequate. That means that the pool can only be open when there is staff on duty to test it. This new regulation also applies to the hot tub. Pool and Hot Tub Hours: Sunday – Thursday 9am – 9:30 pm Friday & Saturday 9am – 1:30am Sunday before a holiday Monday 9am – 1:30amRead More →

The hot tub is down because the heater has failed. Yes, you read that right. This is the heater that was replaced last fall under warranty for the THIRD time!! We had announced that we would be installing a backup electrical heating unit. That is now a rush job. We are aiming to have that done within a week. We are so sorry to disappoint you!      (image from cliparts.co)Read More →

The replacement heater is on a truck coming from California. Depending on how co-operative Canadian Customs are, it should be here either Monday or Tuesday. The installers have been scheduled accordingly and we plan to have the hot tub back in operation for next weekend. (April 12th) As mentioned in our previous updates, we had to order a brand new replacement heater because Jandy, the manufacturer of our current heating unit, is no longer supporting what they consider to be an outdated model. (we purchased it new just 4 years ago) We did a lot of searching but we had to accept that some ofRead More →

The replacement heater that meets our needs is not in stock. It has to be manufactured in California. They estimate 4 weeks. That means the hot tub will not be available again until April. As mentioned in our previous update, Jandy, the manufacturer of our current heating unit is no longer supporting what they consider to be an outdated model. (we purchased it new just 4 years ago) After a lot of searching, we had to accept that some of the replacement parts we needed we no longer available. We therefore had no other choice but to order a brand new replacement heater. The hotRead More →

Unfortunately, Jandy, the manufacturer of our heating unit is no longer supporting what they consider to be an outdated model. (we purchased it new just 4 years ago) After a lot of searching, we have to accept that some of the replacement parts we need are not available. We therefore have no other choice but to order a brand new replacement heater. That likely means another few weeks of downtime. We are very sorry. We all miss the hot tub during this cold weather.Read More →

YES!  It’s finally done!!!!!!!!! We finally managed to get the the approvals we needed. So come by, relax and enjoy!! We appreciate the patience that everyone showed through the last few months. This project was only supposed to take two months but we ran into an unbelievable number of problems. In fact, the stray voltage was typical of the huge number of frustrating and unpredictable issues we encountered. But it is finally done!! While Hydro One is still feeding us stray voltage down our neutral feed, we managed to ground it away in the hot tub area. So the stray voltage problem is not actuallyRead More →

The new hot tub has been working well since early December.  And we have been approved by the department of health. But this project has been fraught with unforeseen complications and it hasn’t stopped yet. We have experienced unexpected problems with the foundation, piping, heater, pumps, wiring, circuit breakers, etc… Each problem required investigation, sourcing and remediation. Each time that happened, it often took weeks to get an expert to give us the solution and then a further wait for parts to arrive. I was asked this week when I thought the hot tub would be open. My answer was “last June”.  I honestly believedRead More →

Yes, the hot tub is finally working. After an unbelievable number of challenges and delays, it is finally operational. The photo features Peter (who has been doing much of the work and coordinating the rest) bravely sacrificing himself to test the water. We have experienced many, many small issues: a week’s delay because of the heater needing service, 2 weeks’ delay to diagnose and repair a faulty electrical panel, 2 weeks to replace a brand new relay that failed, (special parts that must be ordered can take weeks to arrive) another week’s delay to replace hoses that were too short, and I could go onRead More →

As part of the upgrades for the new hot tub, we have installed a propane heater. It is faster and more effective at heating the hot tub than an electrical heater. It will also be able to do double-duty as a pool heater. We still plan on making good use of the environmentally-friendly solar heating system. But, from time to time, the pool drops in temperature quite a bit during cold spells. (like this past summer!) The solar system can take days to bring the temperature of the pool back up. So when we see good weather coming, we can now switch the hot tub’sRead More →
